What is stokes skink?

Stokes skink, also known as the southern grass skink, is a small, ground-dwelling lizard that is native to the southeastern United States. They are typically brown or gray in color, with a series of stripes or spots along their back and sides. Unlike most skinks, they have a relatively robust body with short legs.

Stokes skinks are active during the day and can often be seen basking in open areas or foraging for insects and other small invertebrates in leaf litter and other ground cover. They are also known to take shelter in burrows or beneath objects such as logs or rocks.

This species is considered to be of least concern from a conservation standpoint, although populations may be impacted by habitat loss and fragmentation. Stokes skinks are popular among reptile enthusiasts as they are relatively easy to care for and breed in captivity.
